WALNEY SCHOOL BUILDING
The completion of all phases of the Walney School enlargement programme has now delivered high quality, transformational resources.
The combination of our existing main building and our new block strengthens every element of our educational organisation: all departments are now suited, enabling easier communication for learners and teachers. Core subjects: English, Maths and Science are alongside ICT and Technology in the Main building. The "Ebac" subjects: Geography, History and Modern Foreign Languages are located alongside Religious Education in the new building. There too, you will find our excellent new facilities for Music and Art. These rooms offer a genuine 21st Century educational environment. This runs from classrooms with "teaching walls" that accommodate equipment and resources at the fingertips to electronic presentational systems that allow young people to interact with the wealth of educational resources available on the internet: a world of learning. The rooms are also particularly spacious to enable true degrees of practical engagement in learning activities. Music benefits from purpose designed practice rooms and a new dance studio while Art is enlarged and suited as well as having adjoining kiln room facilities.
Perhaps the greatest transformation comes from the well considered and designed social areas in which the subjects' suites are set. Pastoral groups can now be designated social and study space: a dedicated year 7 playground allows us to manage far better than ever before the induction of new groups into Walney School. Now we have leisure and social space for all year groups, enabling students to take ownership and develop genuine responsibility. All the components of a fully rounded 21st Century Education.
